Why use Original Rider-Waite

A lot of query are from beginners on what tarot card to use. So for beginners I suggest that you get the "classics" of all Tarot Cards - The Original Rider-Waite once you mastered this card it will be easy to learn the nuances of other tarot cards and and then you can identify which other cards resonate to your ability and skills of reading, the card that will be meant for you. So let The Original Rider-Waite be your discovery card, that will definitely provide you with the necessary background and basic skills of learning the tarot

Aside from getting to know each of the individual cards - Major Arcana-22 cards, Minor Arcana-56 cards you also get to familiarize yourself with the different kind of spread but in my experience I have my own style of spread  based on the Celtic spread (10 cards) but I made my own version using 15 cards (the details of course I will not reveal here - it is my trade secret that distinguishes me from other readers. Please note that again it is not "hula" but  my approach is an accurate way of interpreting and reading the tarot cards based on long time experience and psychic abilities as well.) And if the seeker would ask some questions,  the seeker will be asked to draw 4 cards for each particular question. Then still if the seeker would want to verify and confirm those concerns I can also do an I-ching (Chinese oracle) as part of my reading package.

From Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rider-Waite_tarot_deck

The Rider-Waite tarot deck is one of the most popular Tarot decks in use today in the English-speaking world[1] (The Tarot de Marseille being the most popular deck in Latin countries).[citation needed] Other suggested names for this deck include the Rider-Waite-Smith, Waite-Smith, Waite-Colman Smith or simply the Rider deck. The cards were drawn by illustrator Pamela Colman Smith from the instructions of academic and mystic A. E. Waite, and published by the Rider Company.

While the images are deceptively simple, almost childlike, the details and backgrounds hold a wealth of symbolism. Some imagery remains close to that found in earlier decks, but overall the Waite-Smith card designs represent a substantial departure from their predecessors. Among other changes, Waite had the Christian imagery of most older tarot decks' cards toned down—the 'Pope' card became the 'Hierophant', the 'Papess' became the 'High Priestess'. The Minor Arcana are illustrated with detailed scenes and images by Smith, again a departure from many earlier decks with much simpler designs for the Minor Arcana but aligning this deck with, for example, the Sola Busca Tarot. The symbols used were influenced by the 19th century magician and occultist Eliphas Levi.

Inlfuence

The Rider-Waite deck has been used in many television programs and motion pictures, notably in the James Bond motion picture Live and Let Die. (The deck was used along with a different deck created by artist Fergus Hall specifically for the film.) The Rider-Waite deck has been used as an animated video backdrop in Madonna's Re-Invention World Tour 2004 for the song "Hollywood". The Hermit card in the Rider-Waite deck has been frequently used by Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Most popularly in The Song Remains The Same and the inner sleeve of Led Zeppelin IV.

Tarot Card Decks Running Out Fast

The last few months I have sold several of my tarot decks that I have owned and had a hard time letting go. Well I have kept them for sometime and became part of my collections. Some were given as gifts but I have not made use of.  Well I believe it is time for them to be owned and used by other people, those who are equally interested in learning tarot, using it to read and to give as a gift.

Some of the decks sold were:

1) Robin Wood

The Robin Wood Tarot has rapidly become one of the most popular Tarot decks in the world. Its beautiful art, vibrant imagery and luminous energies, enchants everyone.
The 22 Major Arcana cards are filled with life that was previously unseen in the Tarot. It is also filled with the energy of nature, taking the images outside of rooms and into the beautiful abodes of the gods. For example, The High Priestess is an ageless woman wearing a lunar headband. Behind her are trees and a darkened sky lit only by the moon.
The shining strength of this deck lies in the fifty-six cards of the Minor Arcana. The characters on the cards almost seem to breathe. Often, the cards seem so dimensional you get the feeling you could jump into them. Watch the boy carve pentagrams on wooden disks in the eight of Pentacles. Gleefully help steal blades in the five of Swords. Join in the merry dance on the four of Wands.
The 56-page booklet explains everything to give a Tarot reading, including the upright and reversed meaning for each card and 3 different layouts. Each of the pip cards is given a word or short phrase to help you identify the meaning of the card with virtually no effort.
Pagans will love the influence of nature on this deck. Beginners will find it makes learning the Tarot fun and easy. Experienced Tarot readers will love the radiantly colorful, symbolic, and infinitely captivating deck.
2) Merlin

The Merlin Tarot is a unique tarot concept. Based entirely upon the adventures of Merlin, drawn directly from authentic twelfth-century sources, it is a modern restatement of a set of primal, powerful magical images which predate the earliest known set of tarot cards by over 300 years.

This special pack contains The Merlin Tarot Deck superbly illustrated by Miranda Gray, together with The Merlin Tarot Handbook, R.J. Stewart's  examination of the cards, their relationship to the cosmology and psychology of the ancient Merlin texts, and their use in meditation, visualization  and divination.

3) Rider Waite (Blue Original)

Facsimile edition of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck originally printed from plates that were destroyed during the bombing of London during World War II. The deck and book set comes with the Rider-Waite Tarot deck by Pamela Colman Smith with original Tudor Rose back design, Celtic Cross divinatory chart, and The Key to the Tarot by Arthur Edward Waite.

4) Universal Waite (Original US Games)

The iconic drawings of Pamela Colman Smith have been beautifully re-colored by artist Mary Hanson-Roberts. The original meanings and rich symbolism of the Rider-Waite artwork come though with greater clarity and fresh, new details. The enhanced imagery make the Universal Waite Tarot deck more accessible to newcomers and more appealing to seasoned tarot readers. Hanson-Roberts’ serene colors also make the Universal Waite deck as perfect for meditation as it is for divination.

(Note on the price difference - some of the tarot decks are now out of stocks also with the shipping charge and the tariff/custom tax the tarot cards/decks I am selling would be much more cheaper than the imported ones. Also quality wise the publishers of most of the tarots are European or US.)

With those calls, text messages and emails I would like to share some of those information and answers that I have given so that I can bring future query to this site.

Question: What is the best tarot card/deck for beginners?
I have biased towards The Original Rider-Waite,  it is a card/deck that resonates to me personally. It is the card/deck that I also suggests to those who are interested to read as a hobby or earn from reading. So for beginner I suggest the original Rider-Waite as a starter.

But for some of my friends some other cards/deck resonates to them better aside from the Original Rider-Waite that they used as a beginner (well some even used the regular playing cards/baraha to learn reading). Some cards resonates to the reader's personality, skills and spirituality. So it depends on their preference and skills at interpreting the message of the cards.

For some beginners they would discover their knack at reading cards as a natural skills, although others would learn or develop it through constant practice and reading cards ( and also literal reading of books about tarot cards as well).

Just post your comments here, text, email me for your questions. I will be posting these info in my blog also so others may be able to read it.

Question - on a full moon what do you usually do with your tarot cards?
(A question I posted but have not yet received any reply on this - I will be posting soon).

What is written in your palm

Although palmistry is a skill that is developed but for some people they are gifted with an innate talent of seeing through the palm and feeling the pulse of the person. Long time ago in China the practice of determining the pulse is not only what western medicine does of counting the pulse rate but ancient doctors of the East and some would be able to sense your illness just by checking your palm.

Many books have been written and continue to be published about palmistry. But indeed only few are gifted to read the lines of the palm properly and to foretell the past, present and future of the person. But again I believe the future is yet to come and the person whether destiny or fate still has some influence of what she/he would want to happen to his/her life.

So what wikipedia tells about palmistry: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palmistry)

Palmistry or chiromancy (also spelled cheiromancy, Greek kheir (χεῖρ, ός), “hand”; manteia(μαντεία, ας), “divination”), is the art of characterization and foretelling the future through the study of the palm, also known as palm reading, or chirology. The practice is found all over the world, with numerous cultural variations. Those who practice chiromancy are generally called palmistspalm readershand readershand analysts, or chirologists.

Palmistry is a practice originating in the Far East.[1] The practice of palmistry has been used in the cultures of India, Tibet, China, Persia, and some countries in Europe. Studies show that most ancient communities like the Hindus, Sumerians, Tibetans, Hebrews, Babylonians, and Persians were greatly interested in the study and practice of palmistry.

It is believed[2] that Palmistry originated in India with its roots in (Hindu) Astrology (known in Sanskrit as Jyotish), Chinese Yijing (I Ching), and Roma(Gypsy) fortune tellers.[2] The Hindu sage Valmiki is thought [3] to have written a book several thousand years ago, whose title translates in English as "The Teachings of Valmiki Maharshi on Male Palmistry", comprising 567 stanzas.[3][4] Renowned palmist Cheiro learnt palmistry in India where he is believed to have read ancient scriptures on palmistry. From India, the art of palmistry spread to China, TibetEgyptPersia and to other countries inEurope [2][5] From China, palmistry progressed to Greece where Anaxagoras practiced it.[2] Aristotle (384–322 B.C.E.) discovered a treatise on the subject of palmistry on an altar of Hermes, which he then presented to Alexander the Great (356–323 B.C.E.), who took great interest in examining the character of his officers by analyzing the lines on their hands.[6] Aristotle stated that "Lines are not written into the human hand without reason. They emanate from heavenly influences and man's own individuality." Accordingly, Aristotle, Hippocrates and Alexander the Great popularized the laws and practice of palmistry. Hippocrates sought to use palmistry to aid his clinical procedures. Modern palmists often combine traditional predictive techniques with psychologyholistic healing, as well as alternative methods of divination.

History of Tarot

The tarot (pron.: /ˈtær/; first known as trionfi and later as tarocchitarock, and others) is a pack ofplaying cards (most commonly numbering 78), used from the mid-15th century in various parts of Europe to play a group of card games such as Italian tarocchini and French tarot. From the late 18th century until the present time the tarot has also found use by mystics and occultists in efforts at divination or as a map of mental and spiritual pathways.
The tarot has four suits (which vary by region, being the French suits in Northern Europe, the Latin suits in Southern Europe, and the German suits in Central Europe). Each of these suits has pip cards numbering from ace to ten and four face cards for a total of 14 cards. In addition, the tarot is distinguished by a separate 21-card trump suit and a single card known as the Fool. Depending on the game, the Fool may act as the top trump or may be played to avoid following suit.[1]
François Rabelais gives tarau as the name of one of the games played by Gargantua in his Gargantua and Pantagruel;[2] this is likely the earliest attestation of the French form of the name.[citation needed] Tarot cards are used throughout much of Europe to play card games. In English-speaking countries, where these games are largely unplayed, tarot cards are now used primarily for divinatory purposes.[1][3] Occultists call the trump cards and the Fool "the major arcana" while the ten pip and four court cards in each suit are called minor arcana. The cards are traced by some occult writers to ancient Egypt or the Kabbalah but there is no documented evidence of such origins or of the usage of tarot for divination before the 18th century.[1]
